Just a short walk from The Barn Oakenshaw, Oakenshaw Nature Reserve is one of County Durham’s hidden gems. Originally restored from a former mining site, the reserve has been transformed into a beautiful wildlife haven featuring scenic lakes, woodland trails, open spaces, and an abundance of local wildlife. Today it is a much-loved spot for walkers, photographers, birdwatchers, and families exploring the Durham countryside.
